Our very best selling product at Lightmaster is our Faltu Micro floor washer or eyelid. It’s a product unlike any other on the market due to it’s size and style. The Faltu is just 1 Watt of power, 31mm in width and the eyelid design reduces glare and forces the light downwards onto the floor making it ideal for every room in the home, including the garden!!
The Faltu comes in 4 colour finishes – Chrome, Bronze, White and Satin Nickel (not pictured). These finishes have been chosen to blend with wood, stone, brick and a variety of paint colours. The cut out needed is 22mm and the fitting is only 34.6mm deep so it’ll fit almost anywhere! The most popular locations for the Faltu are kitchen kick boards, bedrooms, bathrooms and staircases.
Within a kitchen there are several places you could use a Faltu. They can be an under cabinet light, ideal for task lighting a work surface without causing any shadows. They work excellently as a low level floor washer – the amount of light provided is perfect for entertaining when mixed with candlelight and perhaps a couple of wall lights. They’re also great for midnight trips to the kitchen for a glass of water – put one or two on a separate switch to ensure you’re not going to flick all of your lights on in one go.
In the bedroom, the Faltu floor washer is great as low level lighting, especially in children’s rooms. The low light output and glare-reducing design makes it a perfect night light. It’s also useful in the master bedroom as a tiny light to guide the eye to furniture, avoiding any toe stubs.
Our design team actually refer to the Faltu as a “pee light”. In nearly all of our design projects we use one or two of these in the bathroom linked to a PIR sensor, the idea being that at night time, any movement in the room will trigger the sensor and the lights will come on. These will give you enough light to see what you’re doing but not so much to aggravate your sensitive, sleepy eyes.
One of the most common uses for the Faltu is as a stair light. It’s both aesthetically pleasing and acts as a safety feature. Depending on the size and style of your staircase, we recommend a light every other or every third step. Like in the bathroom, you could opt to have the lights on a sensor to come on as you approach the stairs, or just have them on a separate switch, whichever works best for you and your family. You do need to be careful of the positioning of these lights though. If you put them on the wall side of your stairs, they’ll be shining out into a room or hallway – be aware that if you have a chair or sofa level or below a Faltu, you might get a bit of glare. If the staircase allows, you might prefer to put them on the opposite side to avoid this.
The Faltu has an IP rating of 65, meaning it can go outside. We have many projects where the fitting has been used by itself however we also produce our Faltu post in either oak or teak. The oak version is made of untreated wood and so you can expect it to weather down to a silvery grey finish and the wood may also split slightly but this won’t effect the actual fitting. You can treat the posts with a wood oil if you wish. The teak posts however remain a lovely brown colour due to the natural oils in the wood.
The Faltu floor washer is £29+ VAT and requires a 350mA driver to run it. It must be wired in series, like most LED products and it’s 1W module has a lamp life of 50,000 hours (in residential terms, that’s around 30 years based on the lamp on 6 hours a day).
