Some projects are memorable for the technical challenge. Others are memorable for the people. Our work with Greens has been both. Over the course of the project, we have designed and supplied tailored lighting schemes across three distinct environments: a beautifully designed kitchen showroom, a set of contemporary office spaces, and private accommodation.
Each one asked something different of us, and each was considered around how the space is actually used rather than simply where the fittings would look tidy on a plan.
Lighting a showroom that has to sell the detail
A kitchen showroom is a demanding space to light. The lighting has to reveal the quality of the cabinetry, the depth of the stone, the finish on the ironmongery, all of it at close range and under scrutiny. Get it wrong and good materials look flat.
Our scheme for the Greens showroom was built in layers, so that general light, accent light and task light each do their own job without fighting one another. Worktops are lit properly for the way customers lean in and inspect them. Display areas are picked out so that individual kitchens read as separate settings rather than one continuous run. Consistent colour temperature and high colour rendering keep timber, paint finishes and stone looking exactly as they should.
Offices that people work in all day
The office spaces called for a different approach entirely. Here the priority is comfort over drama: even light levels across desks, controlled glare on screens, and a scheme that stays comfortable through a full working day rather than just looking impressive for the first ten minutes.
We specified accordingly, with attention to the position of fittings relative to workstations and to how the scheme behaves as daylight changes through the day.
Private accommodation with a domestic feel
The private accommodation needed warmth rather than output. Residential lighting is about atmosphere and control, the ability to move a room from bright and practical to soft and relaxed without touching a single fitting. Dimming and circuit design did most of that work, giving the spaces genuine flexibility across the course of an evening.
Why this project stands out
What has made this one truly special, though, is not the specification. It is the relationship we have built with the team at Greens.
Their passion for quality and craftsmanship mirrors our own, and that shared standard changed the nature of the work. Conversations were open. Decisions were made together. Details that could easily have been waved through were talked about properly, because both sides cared about getting them right. It has been a genuine collaboration from start to finish, and those are rarer than they should be.
Worth seeing in person
If you are ever visiting The Mumbles, the Greens showroom is well worth experiencing for yourself. Photography only tells you so much about lighting. Standing in a space and seeing how the light falls on a worktop, how a display draws your eye, how the room simply feels comfortable to be in, that is the part that never quite translates to a screen.
